2025 Eastern Oklahoma Design Awards

Design Awards Eligibility
Eligible projects include:
· Any project designed by an AIA or Assoc. AIA member of AIA Eastern Oklahoma, built anywhere in the world.
· Projects must have been completed between January 1, 2020, and the submission deadline.
· An individual or firm may submit a maximum of seven entries, across all categories, for which authorship can be supported.
· An individual or firm submitting an entry must have designed the project or been a member of the project team who executed the project. An entry executed by a Joint Venture shall be eligible if any member of the Joint Venture is an AIA or Assoc. AIA Eastern Oklahoma.
· Entries may be one work or a related group of work (buildings) forming a single project. Previously honored projects in other AIA local, state, or national awards are eligible.
· Projects previously honored in an AIA Eastern Oklahoma Design Awards Program are not eligible. This does not include projects previously honored in the Excellence in Craft category.
Large Commercial Architecture (Above 25,000 sq/ft)
Any new build or addition/renovation commercial project meeting the criteria above.
Commercial Architecture (Below 25,000 sq/ft)
Any new build or addition/renovation commercial project meeting the criteria above.
Interior Architecture
Any project focusing on interior architecture and meeting the criteria above.
Adaptive Reuse
Any Adaptive Reuse (change in use) project meeting the criteria above.
People’s Choice Award
This award is open to submissions and will be voted on by the public. If you want to enter the People’s Choice Category, make sure to mark the box and submit a People’s Choice photo for use on the website.
These categories will rotate on an annual basis to allow us to honor projects that might otherwise get overlooked in more general categories.
Civic Architecture
Any civic project that meets the criteria above. This includes libraries, courthouses, civic centers, municipal buildings and other public spaces.
Historic Preservation
Any historic preservation project that meets the criteria above. Submissions do not have to be listed as a historic landmark.
Design Awards Entry Fees & Deadlines
A non-refundable registration fee of $175 is required for each entry into the AIA Eastern Oklahoma Design Excellence Awards. Your entry fee must be received by the Chapter Office no later than September 9. Final submissions will be due no later than 11:59 pm on October 9.
A jury of professionals in architecture will evaluate the submissions. The selection method and number of awards shall be at the discretion of the jury. The jury also reserves the right to move entries to a category they feel is more appropriate.
Honor Award
The Honor Award is AIA’s highest level of award. It acknowledges a project with distinctive character and outstanding merit.
Merit Award
The Merit award recognizes projects that clearly demonstrate a level of design that exemplifies superior achievements.
Citation Award
The Citation Award is awarded to projects of notable accomplishment and excellent design qualities.
People’s Choice Award
The People’s Choice Award is given to a project in each category that receives the most online votes from the public.

AIA Eastern Oklahoma uses a paperless, digital submission entry.
All entries must include:
1. A PDF presentation derived from a template provided by AIA Eastern Oklahoma that includes up to 16 slides depicting the project with a minimum of 4 photographs, 2 drawings and one text containing slide addressing the narrative of the project.
2. 1 designated high resolution photo to be used for the People’s Choice Award voting. This photo will be displayed on the AIA Eastern Oklahoma website prior to award announcements and may be used in any additional print, digital, or television media used to advertise the People’s Choice Award voting.
3. Up to 5 high resolution project images, a selection of which may be used during the Awards Ceremony and/or for publication and publicity.
4. One awards presentation slide (containing photos and firm name) to be shown during the reception at the awards presentation on November 7.
5. Completed Project Identification Form
Entrants are responsible for any royalty, copyright, and/or photography fees. It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure that the submissions are cleared for release by the photographer, firm, owner or any other entity with copyright over them. Submission of images to the AIA Eastern Oklahoma Design Awards Program is considered a complete and unbinding release of all images for publication. Submissions will become the property of AIA Eastern Oklahoma, unless otherwise requested, and used at the discretion of AIA Eastern Oklahoma. Electronic images of award-winning entries will be available for unrestricted media distribution and publicity by AIA Eastern Oklahoma.
